OUR OUTPATIENT SERVICES

Evaluations

An evaluation is the first step to receiving occupational therapy services! The initial evaluation is the first time you and your child will meet the OT! The visit typically lasts between 45-60 minutes. During this time you, your child, and the OT will discuss your child's history, strengths, challenges, goals, and more. This visit will include a standardized assessment tool and/or questionnaire to help the OT further understand the needs of you and your child. For children and families who are found eligible for services, re-evaluation typically occurs after 5-6 months. During the re-evaluation visit, you and the OT will discuss your child's progress and continuation or discharge options.

Treatment Sessions

Treatment sessions, also called intervention sessions, are the meat and potatoes of occupational therapy services.  This is the time that you, your child, and your OT will carve out regularly to support your child's growth and meet your family's needs. Treatment sessions will include a variety of specially selected activities that target specific ares of your child's development in relation to the goals that were set during the OT evaluation. Treatment sessions are highly varied. How long they last and how many sessions you and/or your child will will attend are determined upon a number of factors including, but not limited to, your child's functional abilities, therapist availability, and your commitment. As a parent you are welcome and encouraged to participate in treatment sessions with your child! By participating regularly you get to see how your child is making progress towards their goals and increase your knowledge of how to best support your child at home!

Documentation

During your evaluation and/or treatment session, you may see your therapist engaging in electronic and/or non-electronic forms of documentation.  This can include collecting information about you, your child, and/or your family for the purpose of creating a medical record and keeping track of your child's goals.  This information is protected under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and will not be disclosed without your prior written consent. In addition, you may wish to request documentation in the form of a progress report, letter of medical necessity, referral/recommendation, etc. These services are also available upon request for active clients.
